My new favorite book from the series! This is just so amazing to read. Inspired by the tale of The Little Mermaid, Katy Regnery has once again captured my beating heart and wrote a book that I devoured in a sitting.
This book is more of a slow-burn at the start, but then from the middle towards the end it's pretty much very straightforward and is set at a different pace. The book tells the story of Laire, our little mermaid with the strawberry-blonde hair who is a fisherman's daughter in a small island who met Erik, the governor's son who is on a holiday break with his family staying in his 'vacation home' not far from Laire's island. They have an instant connection and that summer before he goes to college, they share the summer together falling in love.
Everything is perfect until a tragedy forced their hand and they have to be apart. The book is divided into two section, Part I and Part II, and the bridge (years) towards the second part is one of the most beautifully written part of the book. I feel like I don't miss a lot at all when reading about Laire's life. It's such a beautiful picture and I just do not want to stop reading it.
On Part II, everything is pretty much fast-paced and there are not a lot of miscommunications as they had towards their younger years, so it's refreshing to see how they are able to overcome their emotions to communicate. I think this book is such a heart-warming story that will leave readers wanting more. Erik is just a very good guy, and is totally my new favorite hero EVER.
*5 out of 5 Stars*
